Padma Shing Fish 500g Blk

Padma Shing Fish is a 500g pack of halal shing, the stinging catfish of South Asia. Padma, the importer, lists it as a frozen product of Bangladesh. Shing is a small, scaleless freshwater catfish with soft flesh and few bones, and it turns up often at Bengali family meals.

How to use

• Cook it soon after thawing, as the pack label advises.
• If any fins are still attached, handle the fish carefully: the spines just behind the head can give a painful sting.
• Make shing macher jhol, a thin curry of turmeric and cumin with potato or cauliflower, or a thicker bhuna with onion and green chilli.
• Store as directed on the pack.
