Table Salt is plain cooking salt in a 1 kg pack, sold in Japan as 食塩 (shokuen) by the Japanese food company Kobe Bussan. The large pack covers everyday seasoning, from curry and dal to the water for boiling rice.

How to use

• Season curries, dal, bhaji and bhorta to taste.
• Salt the water for boiling rice, pasta or potatoes.
• Rub it onto fish with turmeric before frying, as Bengali cooks do.
• Use it for brines and quick pickles, and keep the pack closed so the salt stays dry.
