Ambika Star Anise Whole 20g

Ambika Star Anise Whole is dried, eight-pointed star anise in a 20 g pack. Called badian or chakri phool in India and hakkaku in Japan, it has a strong, sweet, liquorice-like aroma, so one or two stars are usually enough. Ambika lists India as the origin.

How to use

• Fry a star in the oil with other whole spices for biryani, pulao or meat curry, and lift it out before serving.
• Ambika notes its use in Kashmiri, Chettinad and Goan cooking, and in Chinese five-spice with cinnamon, clove and fennel.
• It also suits paneer and ghee-based dishes, or a pan of chai.
• Store cool and dry, and use soon after opening.
